Arie Perry

Arie Perry is a Professor of Pathology and Neurosurgery at the University of California in San Francisco, where he also serves as Director of the Neuropathology Division and the Neuropathology Fellowship training program. He received his medical degree and residency training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, followed by fellowships in surgical pathology, neuropathology, and molecular cytogenetics research at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, where he worked closely with his mentor, the late Dr. Bernd Scheithauer. His interests have focused mostly on classification, grading, and molecular characterization of adult and pediatric brain tumors, with some of his most notable contributions relating to oligodendroglial neoplasms, glioblastoma variants, meningiomas, and embryonal tumors. He is currently serving as a senior advisor for the WHO 2016 brain tumor classification update and has over 340 publications. He has also served as a chief editor for Brain Pathology (official journal for the International Society of Neuropathology), the 2010 Practical Surgical Neuropathology textbook, and the 2015 9th edition of Greenfield’s Neuropathology text. Dr. Perry maintains an active surgical neuropathology consult service and is a frequently invited lecturer. He has also been featured in several media stories for his innovative use of "neuropathology songs" as an educational tool.
